Physical Properties
  • Nitrogen is a colorless gas at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.

  • Its boiling point is -196 °C and its freezing point is -210 °C.

  • It constitutes approximately 78% of the gases in the atmosphere.

Production
  • Nitrogen is usually obtained from the air. In air, nitrogen is present together with oxygen and other gases. Techniques such as fractional distillation can be used to purify nitrogen.

Areas of Use
  • Food Industry: Nitrogen is used in food packaging processes. It helps to extend the shelf life of food by absorbing oxygen in the packaging.

  • Electronics Industry: Nitrogen is used in the production and processing of electronic devices, especially in soldering processes.

  • Metallurgy and Welding: Nitrogen is used in metalworking industries to eliminate oxygen and other gases from the atmosphere.

  • Chemical Industry: Nitrogen is used to provide an inert atmosphere in many chemical processes.

  • Medicine and Health: Nitrogen can be used to provide low temperatures in applications such as cryotherapy.

  • Agriculture: Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plants to grow. Nitrogen fertilizers are used in soil to stimulate the growth of plants.

General Features
  • Nitrogen gas can be converted into liquid nitrogen under high pressure. This can be used in freezing and refrigeration applications.

Safety
  • Nitrogen is an odorless and colorless gas that cannot be inhaled. Its accumulation in confined spaces without adequate ventilation can be dangerous.

Nitrogen is a gas widely used in many industrial processes and scientific applications. Its purity and inert properties make it safe to use in a variety of applications.
